The second draft of the next City by the Bay (previous stories are Chiaroscuro and Something Beautiful) story is done, as of today.

There will be editing. Oh yes. It’s not quite ready to submit yet, and I don’t think my publisher would take too well to a 100,000-word submission. But that’s an issue for another day.

(Like tomorrow or Wednesday.)

Also for another day is deciding what to actually call this thing. I’ve been calling it Cartography For Beginners for years, but I’m no longer sure that’s the right title. Currently it’s One of My Kind. I’ve also tried The Curve of the Earth, which seems kind of generic, and Loving Leo, which is just…yeah, no.

Oh, titles. When they don’t announce themselves they can be so hard to find.

works in progress meme

I did this meme not long ago,  but then while looking through my documents I found a folder of beginnings I’d completely forgotten about. Thus, I’m doing it again. (With the caveat, as ever, that these may not be so much “in progress” as “stalled.)

Post a line (or two) from as many of your WIPs as you want, with no explanation attached.

I know I haven’t talked about this in ages

For a long, long time I’ve been struggling with a screenplay, and come close to giving up on it many times.

But today, thanks to a perfect storm of events, I’ve written the end. It’s about five minutes’ worth of film, I think, images and lines I’ve had in my head for years.

I think it’s going to work, kids.

Now I just need to go back and fill in the rest.

(No, really, this is me excited.)
