Summary: Five ways the Losties’ family and friends found out about the plane crash.

1. Kate.
Diane is woozy from the painkillers and chemotherapy but she still can spot a federal agent when one steps into her room. Before the man even starts speaking, though, she knows she won’t be seeing her daughter again.

2. Charlie
Liam is getting Megan dressed when Karen sits on the sofa turns up the volume on the television, her face solemn. “A bit early for the news, isn’t it?” he says, and Karen answers, “Wasn’t that Charlie’s flight?” just as someone knocks on the front door.

3. Claire
The nurse turns on the television set and leaves the room. “Claire missed her visit,” she says sadly to her supervisor, as the TV news announces, “No survivors have yet been found.”

4. Hurley
“No trace of the flight has been found, Mrs. Reyes. They don’t expect to find any survivors.”

Sitting in the big house Hugo bought for her, Mrs. Reyes nods and thinks she would give back the house, the cars, the factories, all of it, just to have Hugo home.

5. Jack
The airline sends two representatives to Margo Shepherd, a young man and a young woman, and the woman does all of the talking. “We know your son boarded this flight with your husband’s remains,” she says gently.

“Thank you for coming,” Margo says and can’t quite find the strength to see the airline representatives out.
