The others had grand plans of feasts and whores and casks of wine, but Handsome Pat wanted only one thing for when the spell was finally broken.
“Coffee,” he told the girl, who had once served him a cup of steaming chicory—the cup that had first told him all was not well. “I want coffee. With fresh cream and a sprinkle of sugar. All the rest can wait. First, I want coffee.”
The girl’s only answer was her staring eyes.
